A portion of Chapter 8: Running from Chaos? Oh My!
(This chapter is dedicated to my friend Brian who is climbing Jacob's Ladder)
I love talking with Brian. We have conscious conversations regularly, and we inspire each other to grow.
Brian's recent self-discovery is worth sharing. In fact, I wrote it while he spoke it, and told him I would include it in this book. He jokingly told me he would start charging me for our calls.
Brian purchased a book that he thought was going to be great (Harmonic Wealth, by James Arthur Ray). But somewhere in the middle of reading it, he experienced resistance. In the book, James talked about chaos, the last thing Brian wanted to read about, the last thing he needed. Brian wants peace and has done much personal development work to develop it in his life. Brian also offers talks about his life story called "From Panic to Peace". He is working on a plan to offer retreats for people, through a non-profit program called Jacob's Ladder. Being someone who practices "being conscious", Brian stopped reading and asked himself a superb question (That's one of the best kept secrets to success. When you feel resistance, stop and reflect.): Am I resisting this message about chaos because it's not aligned with my spirit, or because I am afraid? Upon reflection, he chose to respond to his own question by reading a little bit more. and a few pages later, discovered that James' message was wonderful: the chaos of too much business. He doesn't have enough people to answer the phones, and other such fine growing pains. Brian could relate to that, he enjoyed the rest of the reading, and he is now less resistant to the idea of chaos. This acceptance allows him to be a better receiver to more good, which may appear chaotic at first. Then he shared a question from the book with me, to help him assess how wealthy he is in the relationship area of his life: "Do you treat yourself the way you want other people to treat you?" He was attempting to grasp the meaning of the question and wanted my input. It made me laugh because just the day before I wrote a quote: If you want people to say yes to you, the key isn't saying yes to other people. It's saying yes to yourself. People will copy what you DO. And yes, we are back to that topic again: Acceptance. It's important to accept what your spirit wants to give, not just to others, but to YOU TOO! I told Brian this. He agreed that he could much more easily accept what his spirit wanted to give to others, but could ignore his spirit when it came to giving experiences to himself to enliven his own life.
Years ago, he faced panic attacks and agoraphobia. He has healed from those and is now the proud owner of a gift basket business

You're not an island. The world needs you. You are not alone. Get off your pity pot, look around, and reach out to help someone or appreciate someone. You're worth it!

Well, I just received yesterdays email today. I wish I saw this earlier today. I have been in the same sort of thinking that you described in both stories. I find that I have so much on my mind that I am not taking any action. I did a technique that I was taught called bubbling...where I really have a look as to what is going on inside my head. So, these stories were a confirmation that other people go through the same things. I really loved the feed back! I love how Debbie is such a mind reader!!! Thank you Debbie!
